In 2010, two IT agency workers in Tampere were finding it nearly impossible to focus amidst the constant noise of their open-plan office environment. The primary source of daily frustration was their manager, who regularly conducted lengthy phone calls right in the middle of their shared workspace. When the frustrated employees suggested that he take his calls elsewhere, his direct response was to ask them to buy him a phone booth. Realising that no suitable commercial option existed anywhere on the market, Samu Hällfors and Vesa-Matti Marjamäki decided to construct a functional soundproof booth themselves inside a local garage.

That original workshop prototype marked the official founding of Framery and inaugurated the commercial office pod sector. Designing an effective soundproof structure presented significant engineering challenges, requiring the co-founders to solve complex issues surrounding acoustic insulation, active ventilation, and user comfort. The founders spent five initial years refining their product design and manufacturing processes before finally achieving their first milestone of one million euros in annual revenue. Following that early breakthrough, the Finnish business expanded rapidly across international markets, reaching over one hundred million euros in annual revenue within the next five years.

As corporate buildings around the world adopted open layouts, the demand for quiet spaces inside bustling work environments increased substantially. Framery responded by expanding its lineup beyond individual phone booths to include larger soundproof pods designed for group collaboration and video calls. Their product family now features models such as Framery One, Framery Four, and Framery Six, each tailored to accommodate different team sizes and workplace requirements. Every pod combines advanced acoustic engineering with automated airflow and interior lighting, offering employees a quiet shelter for private discussions and intense concentration.

To complement its physical architecture, the enterprise introduced an integrated suite of smart workplace technologies that connects physical spaces with digital data. Systems such as the Framery Room Sensor and Framery Connect collect real-time occupancy data to give workplace management teams detailed insights into how office space is used. Employees can locate available pods, view spatial density, and reserve meeting rooms in seconds through a dedicated mobile application or exterior display screens. This integration of soundproof engineering and intelligent software allows companies to optimise their floor plans while improving daily office experiences.

Fifteen years after its inception, the Tampere based company operates across 104 countries and employs a workforce of more than 450 people. Having raised only a single seed funding round of 300 thousand euros, Framery has generated over 150 million euros in annual revenue while building a remarkably profitable business model. As the company prepares to demonstrate its intelligent workplace solutions at Slush 2026, its soundproof pods continue to redefine office acoustics and productivity for major organizations worldwide.
