The ongoing war in Ukraine has created an urgent and unprecedented demand for advanced prosthetic technology tailored to individuals recovering from limb loss. For many amputees, imported bionic arms remain far too expensive and difficult to maintain locally over time. Ukrainian startup Allbionics answered this challenge by establishing localised end-to-end development and production of functional bionic arm prostheses in Kyiv. Co-founded by Volodymyr Bandura and led by Chief Executive Officer Nika Kudrytska, the team creates practical assistive hardware that restores independence without relying on complex international supply chains.

The engineering approach behind Allbionics combines accessible manufacturing techniques with rugged physical materials suited for real daily use. Each bionic hand is produced using high-precision 3D printing processes and reinforced with structural metal elements to withstand routine physical strain. The socket and harness feature an adjustable fit designed to maintain comfort across varying user activities throughout the day. In addition, the mechanism incorporates five distinct grip modes, allowing wearers to perform diverse tasks ranging from holding heavy items to managing delicate household objects.

Complementing the physical hardware is a specialised software platform designed to give wearers direct control over their prosthetic device settings. An intuitive mobile application connects directly to the arm, allowing users and clinicians to adjust sensitivity parameters and switch functional modes effortlessly. The internal power unit delivers up to two full days of battery operation on a single charge, ensuring reliable utility during long workdays. Because prototyping, software development, and assembly all take place in Kyiv, technicians can quickly service and update the devices as needed.

To ensure these devices reach those who need them most regardless of personal income, Allbionics developed a model centred on community support and strategic funding. Rather than relying solely on direct commercial sales to individuals, the company works alongside non-profit partners including the Dopomohator charitable foundation. Funding raised through Dopomohator enables the vast majority of Allbionics users to receive their completed bionic prostheses at zero personal cost. This collaborative ecosystem removes severe financial obstacles and allows amputees to focus entirely on rehabilitation and regaining physical capabilities.

The startup thrives on a multidisciplinary team combining expertise in embedded systems design, mechanical engineering, and physical rehabilitation. Engineers work closely alongside clinicians and end users to iterate rapidly on feedback, making continuous improvements to mechanical joint durability and sensor responsiveness. This tight feedback loop ensures that every design iteration addresses actual physical challenges encountered during daily usage. The company's small, dedicated team of eleven employees demonstrates how agile engineering can produce sophisticated hardware suited to demanding real-world conditions.

Beyond its direct clinical impact, Allbionics plays a vital role in sustaining local technological capacity and fostering domestic innovation in Kyiv. By keeping its entire manufacturing pipeline in Ukraine, the startup creates high-skilled jobs for biomedical specialists and supports the broader national economy. Early support from prominent backers, including Google for Startups and the Ukrainian Startup Fund, has helped validate the team's operational model and technical vision. As Allbionics prepares to showcase its progress at Web Summit 2026, the company highlights how targeted engineering can solve immediate human challenges while sustaining long-term tech infrastructure.
