How Faceponto automates workforce tracking with facial recognition
Brazilian startup Faceponto combines facial recognition and generative AI to streamline electronic time tracking and compliance for thousands of businesses.

Managing workforce attendance across wide geographical regions often creates significant administrative friction and legal risks for expanding businesses. Labour lawyer Cássio Leandro identified this persistent challenge while working directly with Brazilian enterprises that relied on outsourced staff operating across remote territories. Traditional physical clocks, paper sign-in sheets, and manual spreadsheets made real-time monitoring nearly impossible, frequently exposing employers to labour disputes and payroll discrepancies. To solve these operational vulnerabilities, he founded Faceponto in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, aiming to replace outdated timekeeping with an automated digital platform tailored to rigorous compliance standards.
To turn this legal and operational vision into robust software, Cássio Leandro joined forces with technical co-founders Aquiles Burlamaqui and Felipe Gama. Both holding doctorates in computer engineering, Aquiles Burlamaqui and Felipe Gama brought deep academic expertise in software design and artificial intelligence to the venture. As chief technology officer, Felipe Gama directed the core system architecture, ensuring the technology could handle thousands of daily biometric logs securely and instantly. Together, the founders engineered a digital point-of-presence system designed to operate reliably on standard mobile devices and tablet terminals across diverse job sites.
The resulting platform serves as a complete human resources and department management system featuring more than two hundred functional tools. Employees record their working hours by presenting their faces to a camera, where facial recognition algorithms instantly verify identity and log the precise time. The software automatically processes complex shift calculations, overtime balances, and attendance logs in compliance with Brazilian labour directives such as Portaria 671 and Decreto 10.854. By removing manual data entry from everyday operations, the software drastically cuts administrative costs while offering workers transparent access to their shift records.
As the volume of employee interactions expanded, processing routine HR requests and compliance documentation demanded greater automation. Faceponto modernised its underlying infrastructure by incorporating generative artificial intelligence capabilities using Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Nova. Under the guidance of Felipe Gama, the engineering team embedded generative AI to help human resource managers search attendance histories, draft operational summaries, and process worker inquiries automatically. This integration transforms raw attendance logs into clear actionable metrics, allowing managers to address shift coverages and schedule discrepancies before they turn into costly delays.
Operating within the Metrópole Parque innovation ecosystem, Faceponto has grown from a regional startup into a widely adopted HR platform serving thousands of companies and tracking high volumes of daily shift logs. The platform supports businesses of all sizes, ranging from technology startups and private contractors to municipal public works departments across Brazil. The company continues to advance its technical capabilities through initiatives like the Conecta Funpec program, cementing its position as a key technology provider in northeastern Brazil.
Looking ahead, Faceponto is preparing to present its facial recognition time tracking and automated workforce solutions to an international audience at Web Summit 2026. As remote, field-based, and flexible working arrangements become standard across industries, the demand for verified real-time attendance tracking continues to expand worldwide. By combining strict legal compliance, computer vision, and modern generative AI, Cássio Leandro, Aquiles Burlamaqui, and Felipe Gama are establishing a modern blueprint for seamless digital workforce management.
